2013 NFC North Gambling Analysis
The NFC North is going through some changes this year. Can Jordan Love lead the Packers? Are the Lions getting too much hype? Will Justin Fields and the Bears shine? What’s next for the Vikings?

Bears
The Bears had a tough season in 2022, finishing 3-14. Coach Matt Eberflus and GM Ryan Poles have been working hard in the offseason to turn things around. The good news is that the Bears have a favorable schedule in 2023, which should lead to a few more wins. However, for success in Chicago, everything needs to fall into place, and Justin Fields must step up as a quarterback.
Bears Offense
The Bears have given Fields some solid weapons to work with this year. Wide receiver DJ Moore has the potential to be one of the best, but he needs to be involved in the game consistently. Claypool, St. Brown, Pettis, Kmet, and Tonyan will also contribute in the passing game. The running game is still uncertain with multiple backs in the mix, including Foreman, Herbert, Travis Homer, and rookie Roschon Johnson.
Bears D
The Chicago defense had a rough time last season, ranking last in points allowed. But they’ve made some key additions to improve. Veterans T.J. Edwards, Edmunds, Billings, and Walker, along with rookies Dexter Sr. and Tyrique Stevenson, are joining the team. These reinforcements should help the defense show improvement this year.
While a playoff run might not be in the cards just yet, the Bears will be close if Fields takes a step forward in his development as a quarterback.
Packers
The Aaron Rodgers era has come to an end after over 15 years in Green & Yellow. Jordan Love, the young and talented quarterback drafted in 2020, is taking the reins. The Packers have remained quiet in free agency, but they made a splash in the 2023 NFL draft, adding 13 players to their roster. Keep an eye on first-round linebacker Lukas Van Ness, as well as the new wide receivers and tight ends.
Packers Love
It’s an exciting time for Love as he steps into the spotlight. Fans eagerly await his debut and hope he lives up to his potential. The Packers have a mix of young players like Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, along with rookies Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, and Tucker Kraft, who could make significant contributions.
The Packers may start the season strong, benefitting from their tough home field advantage at Lambeau. However, their relevance later in the season might be questionable, and they could miss the playoffs.
Lions
The Detroit Lions are the hot pick to win the NFC North this year. With head coach Dan Campbell leading the charge, they’ve surrounded Jared Goff with offensive weapons like rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery, LaPorta, Reynolds, Jones Jr, and St. Brown.
Lions Trenches
The Lions’ strength lies in their impressive presence in the trenches, particularly their defensive line led by beastly Aidan Hutchinson. They’ve also upgraded their pass defense, making them a force to be reckoned with.
Their offensive line, ranked #8 by PFF in 2022, is expected to be even better this year. The Lions have an exciting start to the season, facing tough opponents like the defending champions and the Seahawks at home. With four prime-time games, they have ample opportunity to showcase their skills.
Lions Playoffs
I believe the Lions will make the playoffs this year. After a solid 2022 season, they finished with a winning record and showed their potential by winning eight of their last ten games. The Lions are ready to roar back to glory!
Vikings
With a strong 13-4 record last season, the Minnesota Vikings aim to secure a minimum of 9 wins this year. However, it’s uncertain if they can achieve that. The Lions and the Bears are both rising teams, potentially making it tougher for the Vikings.
Vikings QB
Only four quarterbacks in NFL history have defeated all 32 teams, and Kirk Cousins has a chance to join that exclusive club by beating the Chiefs and Bengals. But there are concerns about the Vikings’ defense and how certain players like LB Brian Asamoah and CBs Booth and Evans will adapt to their roles.
Vikings Offense
The Vikings have an over/under total of 8.5 wins, indicating they’re on the edge of playoff contention according to the market. However, there are doubts about the team’s overall roster at the moment. Will Dalvin Cook stay happy? Is Jordan Addison truly a reliable #2 wide receiver? The secondary’s ability to hold up against NFC North wide receivers is questionable. Expect some high-scoring games, reminiscent of the wild-card loss to the Giants.
Vikings D
It’s unusual for a team to achieve a winning record with a negative point differential, but the Vikings did it with their 13-4 mark last season. Their schedule is tougher this year, including challenging matchups against the AFC West, the Eagles, and the Bengals.
Regression might be in the cards.
